Man To Man

Dr. Paul Cannings
Many times as men we work hard, try our best to be good husbands (we don’t always feel like we measure up) and good fathers, and at the end of the day we sometimes feel like no one really cares. It seems like all that is added to the plate is more responsibilities and sometimes more criticism. It seems that the best thing to do is to sit on the couch and try our best to make everyone happy. The more that is done is the more alone some men feel.
I sometimes wonder what was it like with Abraham. He did what Sarah wanted and had a child through Hagar. A few years later Sarah got pregnant and did not want anything to do
with Hagar or Ishmael. Sarah demanded that Ishmael had to go. This made Abraham “greatly distressed.” (Genesis 21:11-12) He could not sleep trying to figure out what to do. God had to give him direction before Abraham got up and took action. Not too long after this, God called upon Abraham to kill the only son he had left. The Bible says that Isaac was the son that Abraham loved (Genesis 22:2). Abraham trusted God and God blessed him in a special way (Genesis 22:16-18).
Today celebrates all the things you fight for when you teach your children. It is for all the times when things get difficult and you feel alone. It is for not quitting. It is for depending on God when you do not know what to do. It is for loving your children when they did not say thanks to you, but remembered to say thanks to their mother.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Gal 6:9; NIV) This is your day to be remembered. This is a day that is honored by God. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.” (Ephesians 6:1-3)
Happy, Happy, Father’s Day!!! Have a glorious day men.
