A hurricane is a storm with cyclonic winds—often accompanied by rain, thunder, and lightning. Hurricanes, as we know, can be fierce storms, with relentless, pounding winds that continue hour after hour. Yet one of the most fascinating things about a hurricane is its eye—a place of perfect calm in its center. Though the winds rage and roar all around it, there is peace in the eye.

That same hurricane over the ocean can create massive waves that bring havoc and chaos to ships or coastal cities. Yet, just twenty-five feet below the surface, the waters remain calm and clear. The fish continue their lives undisturbed, even as the storm rages above.

In the same way, when we face the storms of life, we must allow Jesus to be our center. Through prayer (1 Thess. 5:17), by casting all our cares upon Him and trusting that He truly cares for us (1 Pet. 5:6–10), and by committing our ways to the Lord (Prov. 3:5), we can experience calm and peace—even in life’s darkest storms (Psalm 34; 91; Heb. 12:1–3).

Especially during these storms, we must grow deeper in the Word and trust God through His promises. This leads to peace (Psalm 1).

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
(Philippians 4:8–9, NASU)

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
O fear the Lord, you His saints; for to those who fear Him there is no want.
The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.”
(Psalm 34:7–10, NASU)

Live in the eye.
(Hebrews 12:1–3)
